Thus, the long awaited "MEETING" the moment both My Vickie and Goose's Mom have feared. And this is how it went.
Allred comes home from his two day "Walk-a-bout" and parks himself directly in front of the gate that leads through the kitchen to the doggy door.
Goose waking up from a long rest spots Allred
Goose wants Allred to run so he can chase him.
Allred just ignores him
Goose slips around through the bedroom and into the kitchen the back way, hoping to startle Allred into running.
Allred doesn't care.
"Come on Allred.....Run will ya...run"
"Bite me Goose, you lilly-livered quasi irritant"
"What do you mean Quasi Irritant"
"My mom is gonna get you for calling me names."
"Be gone with you, you namby-pamby K-9 milksop"
I would disembowel him, but what to do with the eight meters of intestine.....
Now for a quick update on the fly repellent we are using. Many of you have asked if it works and where to buy them.
Well My Vickie is the eternal optimist so she is just darn sure that the flies are much less annoying as they were before she put up the Twister on the back porch.
Every year we have a ton of flies that congregate at the back door and every time one of us critters goes through the doggy door, two or three nasty flies come in with us.
She had read about the pennies being placed in a clear plastic bag with water then hanging them in places where flies come into the house. We tried it but it didn't work so well.
Then one day she saw this copper wind twister with a beautiful crystal in it at the local hardwood store. She figured the copper would be the same as pennies but bigger so she bought it and hooked it up by the back door.
The sun shines there most of the day and we were all amazed that within five minutes there were NO flies. Seriously. Plus, along with a pretty twister, we get all those neat rainbow colors on the wall from the crystal.
You can find various sizes of Wind Twisters at Lowes, Home Depot, or other hardwood or home and garden suppliers. They cost anywhere from $9.99 to $25.00 bucks.
So today we went and bought three more and placed them through out the kennel. The first thing we noticed on one is that this bee was not bothered at all and that made My Vickie happy cause we need the bees to help pollinate our garden. But the flies all went somewhere else.
So if you try it, let us know if it works for you cause My Vickie is hoping she isn't crazy as a loon, seeing things that aren't really there. You know what I mean.
Have a nice weekend everyone.
Love
Bert

I might not be a cat person but I really do love AllRed. Those pictures of him are classic.
You know when you said "intestines" followed by a picture of the copper mobile, I thought OH! Haha! My eyes aren't what they used to be obviously ;)
I've seen the sparkly water method being used in Brazil. It was just a pet bottle filled with water hanging above the tables in a restaurant. They should know, right?
I have A LOT of mirrored sun catchers in the yard and house. I love the lights dancing on the walls and ground. I've not noticed the effect on flies though. There WERE very few flies this year. You might know we're quite famous for them and that's why cork hats were invented :) but I thought it had more to do with our lack of real summer heat. Interesting if it's true.
Lavender is good for keeping away flies and it also looks pretty and smells great!
Nice stand-off sequence!! We're gonna try one of those fly thingys. I thought the same thing as Georgia's mom - that the copper tubing was "intestines"... BOL!
Eeeesh... seeing that cat again makes me sick. Goose, why don't you do an exorcism on it while you're staying there... if it's head spins around and it starts spewing green stuff out of it's mouth, don't be alarmed. That's part of the process. Just make sure you have plenty of crucifixes. Good luck.
Oh Bert, I laughed so hard. Allred is really good at name-calling. The names are so creative!!! Haha. You didn't tell how eloquent Allred is with name-calling. I only know about his razor sharp clawing. I think Goose was very patient with AlLred. At least he didn't just run towards Allred like what my dog always do.
Thank you so much for these photos. It makes me feel better:)
That Allred has nerves of steel! Any of us kittehz would be skeered of a woofie the size of Goose (even though we know him to be a gentle giant). We're definitely gonna try the copper doo-hickey. (technical term)
Goose and Allred ! What a couple - I LOVE IT - so magnificent photos!!! Kisses Charlotte
Allred! You sure have nerves of steel. But we think you might need to do something to make sure Goose gets it in his head that you DON'T RUN from dogs...
Thanks for the close ups of the "fly-pellent". We haven't seen anything of that sort over here, but we'll go look and if that fails, we know Mommy will figure something out. :) She really hates flies...
Wow Allred is a real cool cat. He could teach KC a thing or two!
OMD Goose, I am still shaking after the Allred story. I hope you are ok my friend. That is one cat I would not want to mess with. I am glad you survived and I know your Mommy will be home soon.
Mommy loves the spinner

Allred and Goose , too funny. Loved it! Have a lovely weekend.
Best wishes Molly
We were a little bit nervous about reading this post. Well the lovely Allred does have a bit of a reputation and we weren't sure if there would be fur flying all over the place.
Anyway it was lovely to see that the first meeting was amicable.
Have a good weekend.

Allred is downright scary! Goose is lucky to have survived the first meeting unscathed!
Interesting that the copper spirally-thing scares off the flies. They have plastic bags filled with water and a penny hanging in some of the outdoor bars in the Florida Keys to keep away the flies. It seems to work there.
Your pal,
Garth
AllRed is just no fun is he Goose! What a beautiful idea for keeping flies away! :)
That is such a great idea! And very pretty too. Those flies are such a nuisance.
Bawhahahaha! Allred's expressions are SO FUNNY - and typical feline! I get some of the same looks from my feline sister Rosie.
That's interesting about that fly catching device. We may have to give those a try!
Your pal, Pip
I think Allred and I have an understanding now. I hope. It's been great staying with ya buddy, but my MOM will be home before the sun rises again. Can't wait. Thanks for taking care of me.
Blessings,
Goose
Goose needs to be very careful. We don't trust that cat!
Cool way to repel those pesky flies and attractive too

Great post!!!
Those spinner things are so cool! Thanks for telling us more about them. I see a trip to Home Depot in our mom's near future!
So... really, Bert. Spill it. Are Allred and Goose secretly friends? You can tell me!
Play bows,
Zim
I reread this post today and I still LOL.
The funniest part is "what do you mean by quasi irritant?...." and with that photo of Goose's expression looking innocent and inquiring yet slightly annoyed.
This is top class funny! Keep it coming, please.
Cats are nothing but trouble! I am great proof of that with my two weeks of jail/crate time to heal! Just wait until I get better...I might be calling in reinforcements!!

Hi Bert, This sounds like a good solution to the fly problem, certainly nicer than fly paper. My daughter has the bag with pennies & water near their back door but I don't think it works well either; I'll tell her about the wind mobile.
So glad Alred didn't hurt Goose or traumatize him to much.
Have a great weekend.

Way to stand up to Allred, Goose!
I really like those copper twisters, and we don't even have problems with flies!
Bunny
Allred confuses us.We thought all CAT ran from dogs....He must be ev.., well Goose, maybe you should just stay far away from him till your mom comes back, or go find Miss Vickie maybe she will put him back outside.
The silvers and more
Howdy Everybuddy, glad that Allred didn't run cause we get the feeling Goose might come off second best!
Love your advice about flies. Here in Oz, flies are a big pain in the butt! Not so bad now its winter, but we live next to cows and they bring the flies with them and mum is always going crazy about them in the house.
Hope your weekend is great. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory
Ah! Its my sweetie pie Allred and my sweetie pie Goose, together!!! And Allred is NOT killing Goose and Goose is not chasing Allred! (Even if Allred is calling him names!
Mommy is going to try the Copper Wind Twister! Wow! What a great idea.
Kisses
Nellie
That Goose looks so innocent and adorable. Best not to comment on the evil satan devil cat.
Good to know no blood was shed and even better that House is heading home!
Your friends,
Murphy and Stanley
We think Goose was very cool standing upt to Allred! That cat has a lot to say for himself!lol
Get idea for horrid flies.
Have a great weekend

Those fly repellants look amazing! We have a real fly problem here, it's disgusting. You can never eat outside! We may take a look at this.
That is so amazing! Like it is all good looking and pretty and gets rid of flies too. Who knew?
Please tell Goose to stay away from the Devil Cat. I fear for his life.
Slobbers,
Mango
Allred, please Goose's intestines alone...him needs them.
My mum will literally throw up at da sight of flies so her is off to Lowe's to find hers one of these fangdangle thingamabobs...I made dat word up, does you likes it?
Puddles
It looks like Allred and Goose have come to some sort of understanding? teehee
Woof to you Bert!!!! I don't even know where to begin with those pictures of Goose and Allred.
That Allred is one confident, slick and downright ballsy character to stand his ground so boldly in the face of hunting dog like Goose.
And Goose really held it together .... if Allred had done that to me, I wouldn't have been able to keep my prey drive at bay, which would have resulted in a visit to the vet and some "redecorating" of your Vickie's kitchen.
I imagine it was all very dramatic as it went down!
Much love to you - XXOO - Mazzie
