Sugar Snap Peas

Sugar Snap Peas, My Vickie LOVES Sugar Snap Peas, oh and Tomatoes.   Now because every inch of our property is used for all of our friends that come to stay with us or come to Doggy Day Care, we just don't have room for her to have a garden.   And that is rough for her because she LOVES fresh picked Sugar Snap Peas in the early summer.

So....She thinks and thinks and finally decides to plant her Sugar Snap Peas along the front fence next to the road.  For years she has done this.  I myself love it because I love Sugar Snap Peas too and when they are along the front fence I get to eat them while they are fresh from the vine.

Sometimes I see My Vickie out front just standing there eating the peas from the vine while pretending she is working.  Ha ha....Like I don't know.
So anyway early this February we planted lots of peas along the fence line next to the road.  We watered them and tended them and two weeks ago (because of the late spring) they started being ready to eat.    Me and My Vickie go out a couple of times a day and she gets a handful and I get a mouthful and we eat to our hearts content.

Knowing all of this, I will now tell you something that  happened that has changed our lives, damaged our appetites, and caused us to fear all vegetibles and fruits given to us, or bought or grown in our very own front yard along the fence next to the road.

OK HERE GOES:

Because of the fireworks that go off nightly through the month of July AND because My Vickie likes to do it, we sleep outside on the porch swing. That way, My Vickie can be aware of all the goings on with the dogs that are staying here. She can tell if they get worried, or scared from the noise and she is always there for them if they wake up and come outside in fear.

We don't mind cause we love sleeping outside, but it is a little weird to sleep out in the front where traffic goes by and sometimes a transient or two from the railroads.

So one particular night, we are just laying there, My Vickie on the swing and me on the ground beside her listending and watching as time goes by.   At around 2 am we are roused from our light snooze when a big ole bright red, pumped up TRUCK-O-RAMA with LOUD music comes driving up our road.

It pulls up in front of the kennels and right in front of us.  Three big guys stumble out of the vehicle, obviously very drunk, and come around to our beautiful row of Sugar Snap Peas that are growing along the fence that stands by the side of the road.  They don't see us and My Vickie puts an arm around me so I don't make any noise and we watch.

What could they be doing?  They were laughing and talking real loud to be heard over the music that blasted from the truck.  They came over to the fence just 30 feet from us and all three of them start peeing  Yes I Said PEEING all over our beautiful tasty Sugar Snap Peas that were growing along the fence by the side of the road.

Yes they were......All my poor Vickie could do was stare in amazement as they continued to releive themselves for more than a minute all over her Sugar Snap Peas that her and I eat by the handful and the mouthful every day  fresh from the vine that grows along the fence by the side of the road.

So What did we learn?

We will never eat fresh fruit, vegetables or anything else ever ever again without washing and washing and washing them.

And we will NEVER, NEVER EVER plant our Sugar Snap Peas along the fence that stands by the side of the road.

Oh my gosh gosh GOSH!! Some people have no smarts. Very rude indeed!

It is definitely a good idea to plant your yummy peas where no one could ruin them. Woofs & hugs to you both -- so sorry this happened, but good thing you were there to see it!

LOL. Yes, a good reminder to wash our veggies. I always thought we washed them to get the pesticides off, but apparently there are other reason :)

My sugar snap peas plants all got eaten by rabbits before they were able to grow more than 6 inches. Bummer.

Ooooohhhhhhh that is so bad--I don't know that I would have been able to just stand there and let them do it--I admire the restraint of both of you, and will take your lesson learned and remember it for myself!!

PS: How I wish I could bring Todd to your daycare!!!

Geez Bert that's really a bummer for you and your Vickie :( Maybe plant some poison oak along the side of the road for wayward peeing peeps? ;) Just a thought.

Waggin at ya,

Wow - and you'd have never known about this if you weren't sleeping outside. I think you should have at least barked.....

Stopping by on the blog hop today. I've posted the very best cat song ever - it features the cat band and the cat lady. It's destined to be a wildly popular song! Be among the first to see it!

Oh, that is just disgusting!!! And here we were going to say that you couldn't get those sugar snap peas much fresher than that. Hopefully that was the first and last time those rude men do that!!!

Now go and enjoy some well-washed snap peas.

Oh, ick, ick, ick. Fortunately our sugar snaps are inside the fence, but Sage is not a veggie lover. However, Toby is and he & I go out and share a snack off the vines.

Hi, we stopped by on the Pet Blog Hop!

That's really disgusting and rude. Some people just have no respect for anyone. I hope nobody had done that before to your lovely peas!

Your poor Vickie! What a terrible thing! But let's be honest, kiddo, you stick your nose in some pretty strange places, and if I know Goldens, I know you've probably peed on those very same peas, or at least the fence where they spring up. Come on, be honest, you can tell me. I won't say anything. :)

Eek, while reading it I though you were going to say that they puked all over your veggies, but they did worse.

I've missed visiting SO much!

Now, I must say that your story is appalling. I eat berries out on the trails by the handful, and I've often had that very thought cross my mind. Oh my - I may never be able to just enjoy the berries next to the trail again...

Your Vickie is an amazing dog mom, taking such good care of your visitors.

Oh wow! Well at least you know now. Peeing on peas...interesting. And here I bought some nice sugar snap peas at the store, but have somehow lost my appetite. :)

Ewwwwww. OMGOMGOMG. That's gross. Ack.

You should have turned on your house alarm & all the lights the moment they started coming onto or near your property. That would scare them off I think. And they probably would not have peed on your delicious, sugar snap peas too. Did you wash them down with water after they left? Washing them down immediately will prevent the plant from absorbing their revolting yellow liquids.

If you eat those be sure to wash them real REAL good! Give them a good ol' scrub down. Me think it's to to grow these peas in a more secured place! TEE HEE

Ohh, Bert, you should've bit them on the bum. That would've taught 'em!!! What morons!!

They peed on your peas? I agree...no more just popping them in your mouth. I'm so sorry, but I did get a laugh out of this post.
