Which one would you rather NOT SEE on a hike

So, Our favorite camping place is being invaded by some very different critters.

Of course we love it when the Moose come and as you can see, we had some great visitors this time

That was great fun, but then, guess who comes crawlin into and around the backpack and Trigger.  Thank goodness Trigger is cool and calm. I would have freaked out....

Just so you don't worry, Trigger was long gone when the snake came out from the pack.

See ya all at the Bash

Bert

Note from My Vickie
(Just didn't want you to worry that I put Bert in harms way.  We do have a lot of rattlesnakes and all of our handlers in the search and rescue get yearly boosters on the snake shot, plus there are Snake aversions classes to take which teaches the dogs to avoid snakes.  This works on most dogs, Except for our Murphy  who now, loves to find snakes.....Mmmmm...any way, just wanted to say that we are very careful.)

Snakes scare me a lot. I feel like, on an off leash hike, my dogs at least have a chance to run from most danger (we don't have moose though). Snakes, though, I don't think they would know to run from, and with my dogs as small as they are, one bite would be fatal unless we were close to a vet clinic and very lucky.

Great videos!! Those snakes have a way of creeping up on you when you aren't looking. Lots of love, Debbie & Holly

The moose are just beautiful!!! BIG, but so handsome - look at those antlers!

Now about that snake, scary guy. Murphy and TD are a lot alike - Thunder loves to catch a snake and toss it around. But Mom always manages to spoil his fun.

Have a great weekend.

Jiminy Christmas!!! One reason we love winter hiking...the snakes have hunkered down for the winter.

We dare not let the dogs off leash during the summer. We have rattlers here but the most common poisonous snake here is the copperhead. Thank goodness they are not as deadly as the rattlers.

But the snake! With the rattles, NO thanks!

Have a great time!

See you at the Pawm!

HOLY MOLY!! Love the moose, little bit scarey with the snake. We see snakes on our walks too. Sometimes brown and sometimes red bellied black which are both very venemous. In summer we have to keep the dogs on lead at all times. Have a great weekend. No worries, and love, Stella (and Carol).

OMG! you were so close to both the moose and the snake!! How'd you get the snake out of the pack? and How do you get the dogs to be so CALM???

Hi Y'all,

At least the rattler warns before he strikes. However, we aren't pleased with any snakes that appear to be poisonous. We love black snakes though.

Love the moose video.

By far and away, I'd rather see a moose. But then again, I don't really trust moose.

I knew that you must be very careful. Back when I did SAR, we did the snake aversion stuff like you're doing.

I'm glad that I now live someplace where I've never seen a rattler.

Every time I come to your blog, I smile at the photo of Bert in the header.
