What Happened at the Hospital

Most of you know there is a law that prevents My Vickie from taking pictures when I do my hospital visits.  But the law applies to patients, not to our friend Michelle Goose's Mom.  So since I wanted to tell you about My Vickie and what she did at the hospital today, I will fill the post with Pics of me and Michelle.
This isn't my parking place but My Vickie made me sit here for a picture.

So we go in and start visiting patience.  One of the places they wanted us to go to was in the ICU.  Michelle punched in the special code to enter (Cause My Vickie can't remember it....she is like that....poor memory, or just  lazy, she is not sure which)

I like the ICU cause the doctors and nurses love me.  I get to spend 15 minutes or so with just them.  When one gets tired of lovin on me, then another one quickly takes their place.  and they are the best ear rubbers EVER.

So after I spend a little time with them My Vickie asks them what patients they would like us to visit.  They gave her about 4 rooms of people who wanted me, so off we went.

When we came to the last patients room, the curtains were drawn and it was very dark and quiet.  My Vickie had me and Michelle wait out in the hall while she peeked in to see if the patient was awake.  Oh her heart sank when she looked in the dark room and saw a tiny little woman in the big bed.

She had her eyes closed and there were tubes running into her body everywhere.  The one into her mouth made her mouth hang open and the tubes and IV lines everywhere else look as though they had been forced into a ghost of a person.

She almost cried as she turned back to Michelle and me and whispered...."I think she is comatose...they probably didn't mean to send us here."  We all walked slowly back down the hall to the nurses station to ask if we had the wrong room.   It had been so sad for My Vickie to see this.  She said, she couldn't even tell if the little lady was breathing or not.  It was very sad.

When we got to the nurses station, My Vickie tried to tell them as gently and respectfully as she could that she thought they might have gotten the room number wrong or that they lady would not be aware of our visit.

We had thought it might be, that they were hoping if I layed beside her, she would sense that someone was there who was loving and maybe it would help her heal.

We didn't know for sure what they wanted.......

As we stood there solemnly telling them this, we noticed that they started to laugh.  WHAT!, My Vickie thought, how could you be so callous.

Then they laughingly told us:

"That's not a patient, that is the Recessa-Annie that we train on."

It is a dummy.

Whewwww, it is funny now, but at the time.......

After that, me, My Vickie and My Buddy Michelle went down to the cafeteria and ate away our anxiety......and had a good laugh......
Who Knows, maybe some day My Vickie will be able to tell the difference between a live person and a Doll.

Yeah, like  that is gonna happen soon.

Hey, just so you guys know.......Murphy the great will be joining us soon cause he passed his Therapy Dog test last night.   I am so excited to work along side my big buddy.

And Hawk......if your reading this.  We cannot get on to your blog site.  We have tried for a week and it keeps kickin us out.  any suggestions?  We even contacted support.  WE miss you.

I'm so impressed with you! I really want to be a therapy dog, but I just can't keep myself calm enough to do it. When I see people, I just want to jump up for a big kiss and hug! Oh, and I think Your Vickie needs to get her eyes checked.

That is funny!

But...what is the law about not taking photos because I might have broken that when Sagira was in there. I thought as long as the patient gave permission it was okay, no?

BOL! When MOM got home she told me the story. My MOM thought it was the best part of the day. She is still laughing. Those nurses and doc are just her type of people.

Hi Y'all,

Goose let me know you were having problems. Don't understand why y'all are having problems gettin' on the site. I thought you were just havin' problems with comments. Now I am puzzled.

I've been havin' problems with comments since tryin' to change from the widget install of Intense Debate.

As for your introduction to the dummy...I'll tell you Bert, but not your Vickie..my Human's Dad was on life support and tube feedin' before he died. He looked like your dummy. Hope your Vickie never has to see a real person like that.

Glad to see you out and about, even if it is only to the hospital. That is important work Bert.

Hope y'all can come by soon,
Hawk aka BrownDog

We're happy you were able to get out of the house and resume at least some of your normal activities. You're looking good.

So did the staff send you to the wrong room or was Resussi-Annie their idea of a joke? We think Your Vicki was just being very sensitive and considerate.

Congrats, Murph!

This is a great story. Had I been drinking tea while reading it I'm sure it would have sprayed out my nose!

Just so you know, Vickie, that's the sort of predicament I would certainly get myself into. I haven't, but it's all too easy to imagine!

Dear Bert...You and your Vicki would have been most welcome in my Dad's hospital room last week. He was in the ICU when he had his brain surgery. He was there for five days and he would have given just about anything to have had a golden come by and visit him. I was sure hoping they could arrange something, but they moved him to a different floor and then yesterday, they discharged him, so he is back home with his own golden now. You and your Vicki do very important work and those people really do appreciate all that you do. Have to admit, it was kind of funny after we found out it wasn't a real person!! Sure hope browndog feels better soon...he is in need of some tender loving care...poor guy!
