Fourth of July's Fallen Angels

We live way out west of the city so when the fireworks go off during the month of July, we only get the vibrations and a few distant booms, which is great when you consider we have many of my k-9 guests who are afraid of fireworks and loud noises.   But there are always my city friends that have to deal with all the scary sounds and smells through out the night.  And it is a givin that My Vickie and I will have at least one call a week thru July where someone asks us to take care of a fellow k-9 who was found running scared.

Late last night we accepted a beautiful white lab who had cuts on her face and paws from injuries she must have gotten in her desperate attempt to get away from all that is scary.  We cosied her in for the night and My Vickie and I slept outside so we could be aware of any strange problems that might threaten our guests. IT was a long HOT night.

So today after we got everyone settled in, My Vickie and I decided to take a short break and head to my favorite swimming hole which is about five minutes away from home.  We were greeted by many sights, just like the one above.
The signs are a little late, but hopefully they will stay up and keep us from losing more of our walking trails for the next three weeks of celebrating....(the one above was started by someone throwing a cigarette out of their car.)
Once we got inside the park, I got to go and practice my jumping skills for the Olympics.  I mean, I know that I can't enter the Jumping part cause I am sponsoring it, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't keep myself in good shape.
Ten minutes of jumping over fences and then off to my swimmin hole.  A great way to cool off when you are tired and hot.
I am totally enjoying myself when My Vickie and I look up to see the dreaded "Dog Catcher: driving up to the camp host station.  Since My Vickie is pretty nosy and because we are good friends with the camp hosts we headed over to see if one of there little dogs had been hurt.  That is when we met
This little girl, another angel that had been scared by the fireworks and was found huddled on the end of the dock in fear.  Our friends, the Camp Hosts, had rescued her but because it is a place where dogs are not allowed to roam free they had been forced to call the cops.
She was so curled up in fear and our hearts were breaking when we worried about how far she had run, how long she had been alone, how desperate she was feeling.

So guess who came home with us?

Can you guess.  Yep....Little "No Name" is here lying on the floor under My Vickie's desk.  Still frightened but calming down enough to relax a little.  Tomorrow she is off to the vet and after a week, if her owners don't try and find her, then we will try and find her a perfect home, somewhere far away from any fireworks.
So after all the sad parts of the day after the fourth of July, My Vickie and I just couldn't help playing a little bit with Goose today.  Yep, there he is, wearing a dinner bowl.

Goose has gone home for the night, but we sure did enjoy having him at day care today cause he makes us smile.

And we needed a little smile.
And My Vickie needs a bandage now too.  can you guess what happened to her just after this picture.
Night all
Bert
PS.  The big white lab turned out to be named "Pillow" and her owner came tonight to pick her up.  She had broke out of the window on the second floor because she had been left alone for a few hours while the neighbors were playing with some illegal fireworks.  (Home, safe and sound)

Oh no, poor little lost souls yesterday. I hope that the owner finds the other one real soon. You are wonderful for taking them in, and sleeping outside last night.

And Bert, I am impressed with your fence jumping!!

That angel is as beautiful as you and your Vickie. I hope her owner finds her soon or she finds a good home soon. I love your stories. Goose with his dinner bowl is so goofy, hehe. You two are the perfect duo.

Allred must have played too rough again. Sasa does that to me too sometimes, but cats are like that. They like it rough. At least there is a super doper cute photo of Allred ;) I think it is worth it, right?

Kisses!!!

Little No Name is so sweet. MOM liked petting her today. You know I think you and your Vickie are the best for all the good you do taking in the lost and unwanted AND taking them to the vet to make sure they are A OK.
And that is NOT a dinner bowl on my head it is a military helmet to keep me safe from the illegal fireworks fall out. Safety first. Hope we get to walk together tomorrow.
Blessings,
Goose

I love the pictures of you jumping Bert, you are a sight to behold. I can't jump much so I don't know if I can get a jumping picture, but we are trying. God bless you

So glad that Pillow got to go home now if only Patty's peeps (we named her Patty) will come get her. This is very scary, especially here in Utah because we have 2 big holidays! Me and Stanley did really well. Mom and dad sat outside with us and we ignored the noise but most of the noise was further away since our house is in an area that did not allow fireworks. Mom says she really likes the fireworks ban.

Also, Bert you are a very good jumper. We hope to learn how to jump like that too.

Your friends,

Murphy & Stanley

Gruff Respect Bert for those mighty fine fences you were frolicking over with such finnesse! Thanks for keeping us informed - paws pressed for the little one with no name. They are all lucky to have you and your Vickie - the world needs more like you! Love Barnie x

I try not to be judgmental, but how can people leave a dog alone with fireworks going off in the neighborhood? I hope they learned a lesson.

Bert, you and your Vickie are so kind to share your home with lost sheep. Hope someone comes for the newest one.

Hi there, Have I told you that I detest fireworks because of all the fear they put dogs in. All our dogs, in the past, except Hunter were terrified of the noises(thunder too). I'm glad that the lab got home(shame on his family for leaving him)and hope you find the home of miss no-name. She looks like my sweet Sadie. I'm thankful Hunter doesn't seem to be bothered by noise.
Happy Tails to you today.

Poor Pillow, glad to hear that she is back home safe and sound. I wish fireworks were not around. So many bad things happen. Army of 4 posted that their neighbors house caught no fire. Such a shame. :(

Hi Bert, stoopid old fireworks scaring those doggies. We're glad the lab found her home and have paws crossed for the little one you have at your place. Wowza, you are a good jumper. Have a great weekend mates. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory

You know, I don't care about firewerks one way or anudder (It's Vacula and steep steps that skeer me. And Allred.) but I has to wonder how many peeples shoot off the boomers without thinking about the effect it has on some dogs. I see our Sydney wrapped around mom's legs unner her desk all panting and drooling and shaking and stuffs and I think all peeples doing firecracker boomers should see that and has a big, big guilt trip.

Bert, I think you and your mom are pretty spectacular people for taking in wonderful extended family - even if you don't initially know them. I'm so glad Pillow found her home and is hopefully healing. Sweet No Name is lucky to have you. I bet Allred really like them deep down too.

Goose, you're hysterical! Is this an olympic sport we don't know about yet?

happy seeing beautiful!

Thank the Universe you were there for Pillow. I have worried about Duncan doing a similar thing, jumping out our window during the Independence Day celebration. That's why I got him the Thundershirt last year and keep his Tranquility Drops handy. This year we got lucky. Because of the extreme heat in Colorado and all the horrific wildfires, they banned all fireworks, including the big show at the park across the street from where we live. Duncan was spared the loud booms and explosions that typically terrify him.

Bert, I hope you know how much we love you and your Vickie for taking in these poor, scared pups!!! It's just heart-wrenching. Good luck to Pillow back home and we hope little no-name's bipeds find her!
That picture of Goose made us SMILE!!! (And we needed that!) He looks like he's a Doughboy from WWI!

Thank you for taking those dogs in. The world needs more people like you. I don't know how I ended up with a dog unafraid of thunder or fireworks but I'm so grateful. Luckily for the majority of pups in the world, the festivities are mostly over. Also- awesome jumping Bert!

Woof to you Bert!!!! That's so kind of you and your Vickie to help those scared and lost dogs. I imagine that Pillow's person was relieved and extremely grateful. And I hope that "no name" is doing better and that his/her family find him/her soon. My assistant just doesn't understand how these things happen, given that she would make sure that I was on leash and/or be guarding me like a hawk in any situation where she knew I was scared or uncomfortable. These 2 pups were very lucky to run into you and your Vickie. Much love to you Bert - XXOO - Mazzie

So glad Pillow found its way home. Fireworks this time of year make me crazy. So many dogs are frightened of them and you can't hole up in your house all month. In Michigan they just made the big fireworks legal. Unfortunately.

You are a wonderful person for taking in the lost doggies.
