Lost in the fog, smog and ice storms

I know you haven't seen much of me the last week, and
We are pretty sure that it will be sporadic for
the next two weeks, but I told My Vickie
that we at least needed to check in and let you
know we are ok.

Like I said, it has been
foggy, smoggy, icy and bitterly cold
here in Northern Utah
The last few days with all the bad air,
fog and smog we have also
had the first ice storm that My Vickie
can ever remember happening.
Course Us Dog (like Dougal above and below)
still think we are in heaven, cause as you
know, we are good with water in whatever
form it should decide to show itself.
I have not been able to go for
walks or hikes for a week because
My Vickie says it is dangerous for her.
Apparently it wasn't too dangerous
for Dougal, his dad took him
for a long hike after the last storm.

But I did get to go and do a demonstration
about wilderness safety, Search Dogs
and Therapy Dogs

This was a great group of kids
and me, Tucker and Tye had a great time.
We even got to play soccer with the kids.

They had one of the boys climb way
up high on some stuff about 6 feet off the ground
and then they brought me in to find him.

Pfft....like that was hard or tricky to me.
Come on...it's me.
My Vickie would have got a picture of
me after I jumped up onto the high shelf
to find my boy but she was so surprised
that i climbed up there, she
didn't have time to grab the camera.

Back at the Day Care I found
my buddy Goose snoozing the day away
Actually, that is how most of us
have spent the last week.
Snoozing
Miss Bessie opened her eyes
for this picture, then went right
back to sleep
I guess I'll have to accept that this is
how my days are going to be for
at least a few more days,  I kind of understand
cause this morning I went out to play
and cut my foot on the ice and kept slipping
and falling.   Maybe you humans are right.
I mean, yes I have two more legs than you do
but no sense breaking one of them just
to get a little fun today.

I know that as soon as it is reasonable
My Vickie will take me hiking and to the river
to make up for it.

Stay Safe
Bert

Added Note:  Thanks to Murphy and Stanleys
mom we have a new de-icer for all of those
of you who live in our area.
We are going out to try it right now.
THANKS MURPHY

Yes it is terrible!! Mom just used a dog-safe ice melt and it worked out well so if you do not know about it:

Mix 1T rubbing alcohol and 1t of Dawn dish soap in 1/2 a gallon of water. It melts the ice and does not refreeze. We just did 17 steps off our deck and it worked great!

Keep Calm & Bark On!

Oh it looks cold to me, I'm glad we have only our daily rain. You look great between all the kids - I'll bet they all love you (who wouldn't love you). Stay warm and cosy ;o)

We think the bestest place is inside sleeping, way to cold and to much snow for us little guys!

Bert, we did not get the ice storm here in Pocatello, but it warmed up enough to thaw some and turn the snow into ice. Mom tried to slip a few times this morning.
We are all getting cabin fever, soo ready for spring.
Keep warm and safe

Oh...we saw that about the de-icing in an email that was sent to Mommy but didn't think much of it (well, to be fair, we don't have winter). So happy to know it works!
Take care of your foot, Bert. Those are very wise words you said. We hope Allred is staying indoors too?

This winter, I'm learning lots of things on blogs that I haven't a clue about. Berms, salting, snow boots, Thorlos, de-icers and another mystifying thing I can't even remember the word. Who would have thought pretty icing from the sky could cause so many problems! Here's hoping everyone makes it through this awful season without fractured hips and getting SAD.

Dude it is better to stay in and sleep. OH MY Goodness. The top of all my snow is a thick layor of ice! And walking in it, well I am just going to say it, it SUCKS. I do not like that at all! I'll see you in a bit. Get the couch ready for me. Unless that deicer from Murphy and Stanley works. Then I will be outside with you. After all a guy does have to, you know, pee and poop.
Blessings,
Goose

Best you stay in is right Bert! We don't need no broken legs or paws or noses.

Get your snoozing in now so that when the weather does clear up you can get back outside and run like the breeze.

Wozzers, sounds like you have more wintery weather than we have up here in Alaska. Sorry your not out enjoying it. I see you did get to enjoy the company of a couple Aussie friends...so it's all good!

This is like our fifth time trying to comment. Our computer or blogger or modem or something is going crazy.

nearly forgot what we wanted to say. That de-icer sounds good. We don't get ice here much. Sounds like you had a fantastic day out with those kids (we don't like kids much--unless they have food.)

We're hibernating, too, because it's still too hot for furry creatures. Hope you get a melt soon so you can hike.

That sure is some nasty weather you are having. I agree that you should just stay inside until it is safe to venture out. BTW it sure looked like you had fun with all those kids.

Hi Bert, So glad you and Miss Vickie are staying safe inside. Don't want any injuries at all. We are having nice weather but it is supposed to snow next week-I'm loving it being so warm and really don't want the snow. Thanks for the tip from the boys-we can get ice here on walkways and I've fallen before, don't want to again.
Have a great weekend my friends!

Oh thanks for sharing the de-icer tip. And you look just regal and gorgeous as you do your work with the kids. Take care and keep your Vickie warm.

Oh my, aren't you having some cold, snowy weather. Still, it sure can be fun. Penny the Jack Russell dog, however, wasn't too thrilled about it this evening.

I'm sure those youngsters adore you. I see Penny is having a well earned snooze! :)

Enjoy your weekend.

Wow thanks for passing on that great recipe. Mommy is going to try it. We don't use salt much, cause I get it in my toes and then I cry cause it hurts. I hope you get to go out and play soon, but napping is a good thing as well. I love when you do your school trips.

YIKES! Just realized that the ice melting recipe doesn't specify HOT water. it needs to be HOT water. Sorry we forgot that! Several people (including us) used it and it worked really well. Sorry!! Please update to say HOT water - thanks!

We're sure glad to see that you're OK. We heard about the horrible ice over on Goose's blog. There is NOTHING worse than ice! Mom wrote down that ice melt recipe -- many thanks for sharing! We hope we won't need it, but it's there now, just in case!
Stay safe, buddy!

It sounds like you must be having similarly insane weather as we're having. I hope that the ice melts soon for you. It sounds very scary!

I'm not surprised that Bert couldn't be tricked on a search!!!! I love seeing him with the kids. He's such a naturally loving and lovable dog.
